Eric “Kidlat Tahimik” de Guia ’59<\/b>, the father of independent film-making in the Philippines, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Filmmaking<\/i> by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino in its Gawad Urian rites last October 1.<\/p>\n

Kidlat Tahimik is renowned as one of the country’s pioneers in alternative and independent filmmaking, known for his work “Perfumed Nightmates” (Mababangong Bangungot<\/i>) which since 1977, continues to be screened in art house and alternative cinema circuits around the world and which remains to be a staple in film schools for lectures regarding alternative and third world cinema.<\/p>\n

Unknown to many, as a resident brod, Kidlat Tahimik was President of the UP Student Council from 1962 to 1963. Congratulations brod!<\/p>\n
